"Quantifying Care" examines the cycles of giving and receiving case through a matriarchal genealogy and plays within two of our cultures most highly valued realms: religion and capitalism.

While often utilizing the experience and language of motherhood, this work is not exclusive to mothers.  Various tasks were tallied by paid and unpaid caregivers around the country meeting physical, mental and emotional needs. 

The data were then transferred onto methodically crafted ceramic pieces that echo the unceasing, often chaotic rhythms of care.  When I myself was waking in the night to care for my young children I found comfort in the thought of other parents across the city doing the same - and so the individual cups within this piece "26: A Cup for Every Pre-Dawn Wakeup, Q2" are decorated with designs that reflect the specific tally numbers of the other caretakers included.  A nod to our interconnectedness, together in a journey that is often isolating; bearing witness to work that is often unseen.
